May 1, 2025 - Important Update from Kurt Fuller
Dear IHOPKC Community,
As we walk through this season together, I want to take a moment to address each of you, the staff who serve faithfully day in and day out to uphold the mission of this house of prayer. This has been a time of great challenge, reflection, and necessary change, but through it all, I have seen your dedication, your resilience, and your unwavering commitment to the Lord and to one another.
With that in mind, I want to take this opportunity to express the full confidence of the IHOPKC Board of Directors in the leadership of Joseph Taylor as our Executive Director. When the time came to prayerfully consider who should step into this role, we sought the Lord’s wisdom, and we firmly believe that Joseph is uniquely qualified to lead IHOPKC through this season and into the next.
Joseph has served in multiple roles on this missions base, giving him a deep understanding of both the heartbeat and the practical realities of IHOPKC. Over the past year, he has led with humility, wisdom, and strength, navigating difficult waters while remaining steadfast in his desire to see this community not only heal but flourish. The Board stands in full agreement that Joseph is the right leader for this time and we are committed to supporting him as he continues to guide us forward.
Strengthening IHOPKC for the Future
Under Joseph’s leadership, we have taken meaningful and decisive steps to strengthen IHOPKC and ensure that we move forward with honesty, accountability, and a firm foundation of biblical principles. In the past six months, the following improvements have been implemented:
-
Staff, Volunteer Training, and Child Safeguarding – We’ve begun comprehensive training on harassment, discrimination, and child safety for all staff and volunteers. In parallel, our child safeguarding policies are being reviewed and revised with guidance from legal experts in abuse prevention. While this work continues, children’s ministry at weekend services remains paused to ensure all safeguards are fully in place.
-
Harassment Policy Implementation – We have established a clear and actionable harassment policy, outlining how harassment is identified, reported, and handled.
-
Financial & Abuse Prevention Standards – We are actively pursuing ECFA (Evangelical Council for Financial Accountability) accreditation and ECAP (Evangelical Council for Abuse Prevention) standards to uphold the highest levels of integrity in financial management and protection policies. This process takes time, but we remain committed to full compliance.
-
Staff Handbook Development – A centralized handbook is in progress to ensure consistency in policies and communication across all departments.
-
Improved Internal Communication & Transparency – We have worked diligently to ensure that staff are informed more quickly and efficiently, reducing silos and fostering a culture of shared understanding rather than competing narratives.
-
Listening & Feedback Mechanisms – We have implemented new processes to surface concerns and feedback in a timely manner, ensuring that issues are addressed before they escalate.
-
Leadership Training in the Prayer Room – Our leadership teams have undergone training to better serve and support individuals struggling with mental disorders or medical conditions.
We recognize that not everyone has been directly affected by these changes, but they are foundational for building a healthier culture for the entire community. Let me be clear, these changes are not reactionary measures to appease outside voices. They are deliberate, necessary improvements rooted in a commitment to righteousness, wisdom, and best practices. We believe that we are called to operate above reproach, honoring biblical truth while ensuring that IHOPKC becomes a place of safety, integrity, and flourishing for all who are called here.
Moving Forward Together
I know that within our staff, there have been a range of emotions and responses to the challenges we’ve faced. Some of you have felt the weight of these conversations deeply, while others have wrestled with frustrations over how this season has unfolded. Let me encourage you, now is the time for us to stand together.
Our calling has not changed. The mandate of 24/7 worship and intercession remains before us. The Lord has established this house for His glory and He is faithful to bring us through every trial. But He also calls us to walk in humility and accountability.
Our commitment is to build trust, and strengthen unity. In the year ahead, we'll keep refining our policies and evaluating our internal structures to ensure they reflect wisdom and accountability. We're also intentionally reconnecting with the broader body of Christ and prayer rooms across the world, seeking insight and partnership as well as walking this path forward.
I invite you to stand with us. To lean in, to ask the hard questions, and to contribute to the solutions. The Board of Directors and leadership are here to listen, to lead with integrity, and to ensure that IHOPKC remains a place where the Lord’s presence is honored and His people are protected.
Thank you for your continued faithfulness. Thank you for your prayers and your unwavering love for this house. The Lord is not finished with IHOPKC, He is refining and preparing us unto an even greater season of impact.
With confidence and gratitude,
Kurt Fuller
