As we approach the end of the age, the Holy Spirit is emphasizing the revelation of Jesus Christ in the Word of God as Bridegroom, King, and Judge.

This is happening worldwide, in every nation, and for a specific purpose: the Spirit is preparing hearts to respond to God especially in the generation in which Christ returns.

The revelation of Jesus in Scripture as Bridegroom, King, and Judge isn’t random. Each characteristic is entirely biblical and necessary to help end-time believers stay faithful during the unique pressures and dynamics of those coming days.

In the following paragraphs, we will briefly examine these highlighted aspects of Jesus and how they can affect us today.

Jesus, the Bridegroom
Jesus, our Bridegroom, feels burning desire for His people. Knowing this love will help us grow into a mature Bride—one who is confident, even in her weakness.

Many Old Testament passages describe Jesus this way (see Isaiah 54:4–12; 62:2–5; Jeremiah 2:2; 3:14; 31:32; Ezekiel 16:8–15; and Hosea 2:14–23), and so does the New Testament (Matthew 9:15; 22:1–14; 25:1–13; John 3:29; 2 Corinthians 11:2; Ephesians 5:25–32; and Revelation 19:7–9; 21:9; 22:17).

If we’re struggling to understand Jesus as Bridegroom, let us ask the Spirit for “wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him,” to enlighten the eyes of our understanding as we search the Scriptures (Ephesians 1:17; Acts 17:11).

“The Bridegroom message is about Jesus’ emotions for us, His beauty, His commitment to us (to share His heart, home, throne, secrets, and beauty), and our response of wholehearted love (obedience) that moves Him,” says Mike Bickle, founder of IHOPKC. “The Spirit uses the message of the Bridegroom God to restore the first commandment to first place in the Church.”

To be clear, the Bridegroom message is not sensual or sexual in any way and applies to the entire Body of Christ, both men and women.

Jesus, the King
By understanding Jesus’ authority as a sovereign King who received all the power, we are strengthened to contend in fervent intercession for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Jesus’ power manifests through His people as He anoints them to do His works. Jesus, our King, releases protection, direction, financial provision, and healing; He revives the Church and transforms society; and He will restore the earth itself.

Scripture often depicts Jesus as the coming King or Ruler, and the book of Revelation boldly declares Him as “King of kings and Lord of lords” (Revelation 17:14; 19:16).

Jesus, the Judge
As the righteous Judge, Jesus has great zeal for justice. He determines what’s right and wrong and is faithful to remove everything that hinders love until the earth is liberated and His people are saved.

This gives us hope as we proclaim His coming reign and confidence to stand against all false forms of justice—something His people will need in order to prevail in the end times.

“For not even the Father judges anyone, but He has given all judgment to the Son,” Jesus says in John 5:22, a theme echoed throughout Scripture.

Knowing these aspects of Jesus’ personality can transform our relationship with Him. When our spirit man grows in the revelation of Jesus as our Bridegroom, King, and Judge, our faith is ignited, our worship increases, and we are empowered to do His works with greater zeal.

How well do you know Jesus as Bridegroom, King, and Judge?
